I became interested in alpacas in 2006 after two hard-working colleagues died way too young. As a single professional with two kids, I wanted something that would be rewarding and more pastoral to fit the old farm we bought nine years ago. I had always wanted to farm animals and alpacas attracted me because they were utilized for their fiber, not meat. And as s a kid I had been interested in fiber arts, had done some spinning, and enjoyed dying wool.
So my family started our farm in 2007 with three pregnant females and a gelded guardian. We now have twelve. Our added chores and responsibilities are wonderful stress-relievers after the normal workday. We've met wonderful people and enjoy sharing our experiences with anyone who has questions or stops by. We are part of a local alpaca group dedicated to support for newcomers interested in learning about and/or raising alpacas. We also offer alpaca products made from our alpacas.
